LIMINARE

LIMINARE is a custom-designed modular ‘hyperorgan’ exploring the full sonic possibilities of acoustic pipe-organ music. The instrument incorporates technological and mechanical innovations together with a unique spectral pitch concept, reimagining the expressive capabilities of this ancient instrument and encouraging new avenues for musical creation, improvisation, and collaboration. By offering complete dynamic control of the pipe valves and winding system, LIMINARE bridges the threshold between total silence and penetrating noise, showcasing the infinite variety of sounds and colours within each individual organ pipe. The instrument, which will be completed in the winter of 2025, is a collaboration between Montréal-based composer and organist Adrian Foster and organbuilder Alexander Ross and is made possible through the support of the Canada Council for the Arts.
